Car Insurance Goes Social
Nov 11th, 2008 by Paul Miser
I was recently renewing my car insurance and found a lovely surprise online. I’ve been with Progressive for years and have always had a great experience with them. So when I went online to renew, being a marketing guy, I was greatly surprised to see all the “Social Media” components they had on their site. It was glorious. But then I got to thinking, “Why would a car insurance company need to use social media?”
The short answer is to create those personal conversations with each visitor. With the “socializing” of the articles and information on the site, not only does Progressive reach that individual, but also the different degrees of their social network (their friends, their friends friends, etc). It is really quite powerful. From their blogs and articles to their social bookmarking capabilities, Progressive has created an avenue for mass sharing.
Please comment to let me know what you think about the use of Social Media on Progressive.com. It really is very well done. Good job Progressive.
