How to Clear Off Your Desk to Win More Clients
Dec 23rd, 2009 by David Svet
As the year draws to a close, I have time to reflect on the giant heaps of stuff I have collected throughout the year. (No, that is not a picture of my desk!) I have whitepapers, research reports, position papers, guides, presentations, tools and a whole host of other stuff. Most of it is great material. Some of it has made its way into the posts at SpurSpectives, but what about the rest of it? In years gone by, it made it to the recycle bin or got deleted. Not this year. What’s different about this year? Now it has a lot more value.
2009 is the year that social media blossomed. We all became publishers, each exploring our niche. Information that I once trolled the Internet to find for my own personal education is now the seeds of content. It is reference material. It is the stuff that makes up the body of knowledge that makes Spur valuable — and we need to give it away. Where we could at one time get by being well read, now we have to prove it online.
So, before you scrape off that desktop into the recycle bin on your way out the door for the holidays, take a moment to sort it for use next year. It will make blogging easier and your clients smarter. That would be a good start to a new year.

That is very good advice David. After all, a good deal of time, effort and resources were spent on generating a year’s worth of content.
Happy Holidays

That’s a great point! All of that stuff came from someone’s effort. It should be put to good use — blogs, email, landing pages, etc. Thanks for joining the conversation!
How did you know I planned to spend the week sorting and saving? There are so many ideas I saved to blog about and never got to. This last week of the year is a great time to plan and prepare for 2010!
Me too, Nancy! I have a mountain of material to review. My editorial calendar just keeps getting bigger!
