Is the 80/20 Rule Eating Your Lunch?
Nov 6th, 2008 by David Svet
A few posts ago I mentioned an article about the value of marketing in a downturn. http://www.gtms-inc.com/tip_marketingrecession.htm This week I found a chart from a small study done by MarketingSherpa. The survey asked a very simple question regarding changes to the budgets of marketers as a result of the downturn. Believe it or not, in big round numbers, 80% of respondents are cutting, expecting a cut, or doing nothing. That leaves 20% who are expecting an increase or are already increasing their marketing budgets. Hmmm. The 80/20 Rule.
If you consider the facts, as mentioned in the previous post, marketing aggressively in a downturn results in higher profits during and after the downturn. In my simple mind, that means that 20% of marketers will be eating the other 80% of marketers’ lunch — again.
So, what will you be doing when lunch time rolls around?
