Your ideas are exciting and very true that all nonprofits organizations need social media. However, it true only to a greater extend when we are using social media for publicity and for creating awareness about the nonprofit organization's activities but when it comes to say that they make alot of money, donations and other material items it is not very true because scammers have destroyed this medium with fake information and most goodwilling people have become very careful and most of the time very scared. Some organizations and people would not even rely the list from information concerning financial donations or contribution for a course. Most people believe in paper endorsed documents.
I think and suggest that we need to review this domain of communication more carefully and introduce tracking tools/materials for information generated and shared over this media to make it more reliable and trust worthy and more accountable.
Secondly, information shared here is not binding legally and most people will not take responsibility over certain actions that is why these sites are always note footed with a disclaimer.
Thank you and hope to continue to discuss on this to come up with ideas to improve.
Bye,

Great article, and interesting posts! :)
Why non profits should use social media?

First, I’d like to emphasize that (if we are talking about Social Media & Development), not only non profits but ALL development practitioners (both from private AND public sector) should use social media, for development. More and more local authorities are using e-government to reach their target audiences. En the case of engaging diasporas for development, social media can play a key role, if governments use it strategically (and as a 'state' policy).
Second, I believe that the use of social media should be well thought, and planned, as several of the posts in this blog mention. A ‘strong social media presence’ is not necessarily useful if it is not 'a good social media presence'. It can be a waste of time to have a facebook/twitter account just for the sake of having the logo shown up there on the net. The use of social media in not for profit organisations should be planned together with the overall communication strategy and the info shared should be USEFUL for users/target audiences. Otherwise, these organisation's profiles/info lose credibility and people just avoid looking at their content every time they see the logo, just because they know that the info there is not useful or its just ‘too much info’.
-	Why?

a)	It’s cheap
b)	It reaches a big audience. And (in some cases), it reaches audiences that could not be reached through other means
c)	It can help non-profits (and other actors) attain results that other means for info communication do not allow
d)	It can be fun!

i think non profits more than ever need the services of social media because it will not only spread word on their activities to save life but also empower them with finances that can be raised through social media
